Girl Scouts World Thinking Day( Feb. 22nd) is not
only a great opportunity to rally the global sisterhood around a particular
theme—it’s also a chance to support girls as they travel internationally,
connect with sister Girl Guides from 146 countries, and take action globally.
What an even greater experience was being able to celebrate this
event in another country!
The Girl Guides of Okinawa and our Girl Scouts alternate
years in hosting this event. This year the locals were hosting the event and a
great one it was. We have our work cut out for us next year if we want to
compete. Makayla and I have already began working on her SWAPS (special
whatchamacallits affectionately pinned somewhere) for next year. The girls
exchange these among each other and the best part is coming home and looking at
all of them.
COOKIE SEASON
Selling Girl Scout cookies in the pouring rain for 8 hours straight...in the end it was worth it since we almost sold out. These troopers never complained.
Our troop received 125 boxes of cookies donated for our troops. We waiting until a month after cookie season and then headed up to Camp Hansen (single marines) to pass them out. With all the negativity that is going on towards our military here in Okinawa right now, I feel like this is just what these guys needed. The look on their faces and constant thank yous, I was holding back tears the entire time. The girls were a bit upset that we couldn't hand a box to every marine that we came across. Next year I would like to double what we raised! *you can help too, only $4 a box ;)

I put McKinley in Makayla's old uniform. Isn't she the cutest? She was our secret weapon, nobody could say no to her!
Mommy's helper. Picking up tons of boxes of cookies. Loading them into the car, loading them out of the car, and bringing them up to the 3rd floor. This little girl can carry 2 cases of cookies on her own!

Another FUN Girl Scout Event. A Jane Wayne day is usually
where the wives get to ‘play marine’ but today the Girl Scouts get to. We got
to travel to Camp Kinser for this event which is the southernmost base on
Okinawa. It was an early morning and the girls did not let them be cranky
during our car pool.
The Camp Kinser Girl Scouts did an amazing job in hosting
this event. Everything was well organized and the girls loved that their squad
commander was a marine. Those marines sure earned their volunteer hours this
day! At the end of the event everyone also celebrated the Girl Scout 104th
Birthday.

2016 Camporee at White Beach
Two days, one night, with 8 brownie girl scouts... Makayla had so much fun. There were planned activities all day with breaks for some park time. There was a great park right near our camp. White Beach is a naval base not too far from where Preston works. We made smore's, shared madlib stories, worked on our dancer badge and later snuck out down to the beach to do some star gazing.
