First Weekend in Okinawa

8-1-15

Our first weekend here, feels like we have to do something. We drove up to Camp Courtney (Preston’s Base) for a Girl Scout recruitment event.  Who knows what I just signed up for lol I wanted to see what base housing was like so we made a trip through a few housing complexes. After seeing it I don’t think I am missing out on anything. I really love the place that hopefully we will be living in.
Since we have been here McKinley has gotten some really bad bloody noses during the night. It’s weird because it’s so humid here, but just shows how well the dehumidifiers work in all the rooms. We have already replaced 2 of the hotel pillows and I am guessing we will be charged for a few comforters.

For our exciting adventure we went to American Village. It’s a very happening place. So many eateries and shops. Mostly trying to cater to Americans. We ended up eating at Red Lobster…baby steps! Makayla tried fried oysters and like it. Then we took a ride on the giant Ferris wheel that is located in the center of everything. We can actually see the Ferris wheel from our hotel balcony. The ride took 15 min to go completely around. The view from the top was amazing and we hit the very top right at sunset. However, it is something I don’t have to EVER do again. Makayla didn’t help by asking every 2 sec. what would happen if we fell or if it broke….

(Near Sunset Beach at the end of American Village)

Some of the beaches are netted, as you can see in this picture, to make it safe for swimmers. However, box jellyfish are very bad right now and the smaller ones can still make it through the net. Or if the water is choppy enough they can be pushed over the top. Best idea- Stay OUT of the water! lol

On our way to ride the Ferris Wheel

Wow that is high!

I wish I could read this warning. McKinley looks like she is doing this right now!

Best view right here

Perfect timing, sunset and they just switched on the lights!

8-2-15

With so much excitement yesterday we decided to head over to Ocean Breeze again to have lunch and watch the fight. Preston and I have decided that McKinley is the next Ronda Rousey.  34 sec KO!! Today is the first day it has rained and not the type of rain we get in Oceanside. This rain cut off the cable. Luckily it came back on right before the big fight. It was so loud on the roof that I didn’t believe it was actually rain and it sounded almost like an aircraft was flying over, so I had to go outside to verify. It was over by the time we were leaving which meant we didn’t get wet, but we had to be out in even worse humidity. Yuck. To cool off again we headed to the famous Blue Seal (Okinawan Ice Cream parlor). This place is amazing and has some interesting flavors. I think I might have to try them all!

We made a rule that every time we come here we have to try a new flavor!

McKinley says she only wants to eat strawberry...we might allow that.

This is a Preston serving!
