A GREAT weekend

9-5-15

Saturday. The start of our 3 day weekend (4days for Preston). We went to get all our errands out of the way first thing. It seemed like everyone had the same idea since the commissary was crazy busy again. The typhoon may not have caused any damage, but it delayed all the shipments coming to the island. Commissary goods being one of those shipments. They were out of everything! They said the shelves will be restocked in two days, but it is just crazy they were out of milk, milk! Pretty much all dairy products were out of stock and were very limited in meats.

There was also a big event today called Hansen Fest. This was a big concert/fair on the base just north of us (camp Hansen). As soon as it cooled off a bit we ventured up there to check it out. They had carnival games, lots of local foods and jump houses- one that was the coolest one I have ever seen! It was a giant raptor head. Makayla and Kayden loved it. Makayla had to force McKinley down since she changed her mind half way up. She was done after that. I guess it was very dark and spooky at the top of the slide. We ended up finding one more McKinley’s speed that she enjoyed. Makayla even tried climbing the rock wall. I was so proud of her. She only made it about half way up, but she tried! The concert didn’t start until 8pm and Shinedown was playing. It was a great show, but we headed out a few songs before the end. The call for an ambulance due to overly intoxicated marines was our cue to leave. I swear I could have stuck to a wall with how sticky I was from being outside for so long. Gross!

Waiting to go down the raptor slide...for the 10th time

I love this one

The coolest slide EVER
This happened right before we left. Her and Kayden jumped into each other in the jump house, poor baby

She's getting higher!

Sunday family Fun day!

We started off the day by heading north to check out the pineapple park. Before we arrived I would tell you that pineapples grew on trees. Yikes! First you load into a golf cart type vehicle. I must add, the cart looks like a pineapple and magically moves on its own, with no track. The pineapple car takes you through a few gardens and then you get to travel through the pineapple plants/fields. You are surrounded by pineapples and the plants smell delicious! The little baby pineapple buds were so cute. The ride is only 10min and once you get off you start your journey through the many, many shops. This is where they get you! They have everything you can imagine made with pineapple. The best part is you actually get to sample just about everything. We tried pineapple: cookies, cake, sponge cake, pie, ice cream, soft serve, chocolate, juice, vinegar (I was the only one willing to try this), and wine. You even sample some pineapple lotion and face wash. By the time we were finished our tummies were full. We left with a few bottles of wine, some juice, a sponge cake and some cookies, yum. Once you exit all the shops they have a huge shell museum you can walk through. All the shells that were displayed were found around the island! Makayla is now determined to find a few of her favorites.

With 3 sugar highs kicking in we continued to drive north to visit the aquarium again. This time we went straight to the sea turtle pools. If it wasn’t for Preston holding me back I would have jumped right in and maybe even take the baby one home with me. Lol We also saw the manatees and got there right at feeding time. McKinley kept saying she was the one eating all the lettuce. I guess she has a thing for manatees now. She still loves her owls though. In front of the aquarium there is a huge crazy rope park. The ropes went on forever and left the kids in aww. We spent a good 45min here and they still weren’t able to complete the entire rope climbing obstacle. Before leaving the aquarium area we walked down to the beach. I just had to go swimming in the East China Sea! Well we put our feet in at least.

You would think this was already a pretty full and exciting day, but we still didn’t have enough fun yet. So we drove around the northern coast to find a great beach spot. We spent the rest of the day in the water and looking for some of those new shells. Makayla finally figured out how cool her mask really is and went out exploring with Preston. We even got Kayden out in the water! We were having so much fun we didn’t even notice the dark clouds roll in. By the time we thought it was a good time to head out we were too late. We walked back to the car in pouring rain. At least we were already wet. (This beach was interesting because we saw so many hermit crabs crawling around.)

We made it to the Pineapple Park

Can you smell the pineapples yet?

McKinley wore her pineapple shirt
